May 27, 2025 – Brownsville, TX – The City of Brownsville is taking a bold leap into the digital future with the official launch of OMNI Fiber, a state-of-the-art fiber internet provider that is transforming how residents connect to the world—and each other.
OMNI Fiber, now the City of Brownsville’s official internet partner, offers what it calls “true fiber” internet: a dedicated fiber line that runs directly to the customer’s home, eliminating the slowdowns common with shared networks. With no contracts, no data caps, and no hidden fees, the service promises consistent high-speed internet even during peak hours.
Starting at just $55/month for 250 Mbps, with higher tiers including 1 Gbps for $85/month and 2 Gbps for $105/month, the plans also come with a $10 monthly discount for new customers during their first year. Each package includes OMNI’s Premium Wi-Fi system with parental controls, device protection, and an easy-to-use mobile app.
But OMNI Fiber offers more than just internet. Unlimited phone service is available for an additional $15/month, and their cable TV package includes 60+ channels, DVR service, and support for multiple streams. Installation is free, and customer service reps are available to help residents schedule and set up their service at home.
As Brownsville embraces faster speeds and expanded service options, the city’s leaders are highlighting how fiber infrastructure also supports long-term community goals. In addition to improving quality of life for residents, the fiber network lays the foundation for smarter public services.
“Fiber connectivity is powering a new era for Brownsville,” said Jorge Cardenas, Brownsville’s Chief Information Officer. “It supports not only faster internet but better access to telehealth, remote education, and enhanced safety features.”
One key initiative includes pre-positioned security cameras throughout the city’s parks and public spaces, connected via the fiber network. This technology enables real-time monitoring of occupancy levels and supports quicker emergency response times. The city is also partnering with NTT Data to deploy a private 5G wireless network, enhancing public safety operations in key areas like Dean Porter Park, Linear Park, St. Charles Park, and the Downtown Recreation Center.
“Our vision for Brownsville includes smart infrastructure that keeps people connected and safe,” Cardenas added. “This fiber network is a major step toward that future.”
This comprehensive connectivity strategy reflects a broader commitment by Mayor John Cowen, Jr., and city leadership to ensure Brownsville remains competitive, resilient, and inclusive as it grows.
